K99/R00 Basics

  • Typically, postdocs apply for the K99/R00 in the 3rd - 4th year of their postdoc
  • Funding covers the final 1-2 years of postdoc + 3 years of independent research
  • U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident, OR non-U.S. Citizen with a valid visa
  • No more than four years (48 months) of postdoctoral research experience*

* 1-year extensions granted for childbirth, and can be requested for other critical life events. See details here.
